Which English course should I choose?
The best English course depends on your goal, your current level, how much time you have and your budget. Start from what you want to achieve, then compare the details. Here is a quick guide by goal, with links to the right courses and city pages.
Improve your everyday English
A General English course builds speaking, listening, reading and writing across all levels and is the most flexible choice.
Make fast progress or you have a deadline
An Intensive course adds more class hours each week. Hours vary by school, so check the contact hours.
Sit an exam for university or immigration
Choose an exam preparation course for your exam. IELTS is the most common; Cambridge and TOEFL are also offered. A prep course is separate from the exam itself.
Improve English for your career
English for Work covers everyday workplace communication; Business English is more specialised. See the comparison to choose.
Combine study with a summer in Ireland
Summer programmes mix English classes with cultural activities and excursions, usually over shorter periods.
Study from home
Online courses offer live classes with Ireland-based teachers if you cannot travel.
Stay long-term on a student visa
A Stamp 2 generally needs an ILEP or TrustEd Ireland course of at least 25 weeks. Check eligibility before you enrol.
Study with people your own age (30+)
Some schools run dedicated classes for mature learners; others simply attract a 30+ cohort. Check whether it is a dedicated programme.
Before you decide, also check
Your level (a CEFR level and a free level test help), the weekly contact hours rather than just the number of lessons, what the price includes, the location and schedule, accommodation, and visa eligibility if you are a non-EEA student.
