About Shannon Academy
Shannon Academy of English has operated in Athlone since 2001, when director Caoimhe O'Connell established an English-language summer school. Its current programmes combine classroom teaching with opportunities to experience Irish family and community life. The summer programme uses arrival and departure assessments, morning English lessons and supervised afternoon activities, with classes limited to fifteen students. A separate four-week B2 First preparation course includes nineteen teaching hours per week and examination practice. Cultural stays generally last one or two weeks, while academic placements can cover one or two terms in Irish primary or secondary schools. The academy also arranges supervised work placements and host-family accommodation. Its website indicates that enquiries and bookings are handled through partner agencies, so individual direct enrolment should be confirmed before publication.
