English teaching qualifications
CELTA, DELTA and TEFL/TESOL, and how they differ.
Teaching qualifications prepare you to teach English to others. They are different from proficiency exams, which measure your own level of English. Here is what the main qualifications are and who each suits.
A teaching qualification is not a measure of your own English. CELTA, for example, is not the same as Cambridge C1 Advanced despite the similar naming.
CELTA
Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults
A widely recognised initial qualification for teaching English to adults.
DELTA
Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults
An advanced qualification for experienced English teachers.
TEFL / TESOL
Teaching English as a Foreign Language / to Speakers of Other Languages
Broad terms for a range of English teaching certificates from many providers.
